MUMBAI’ RELEASING ON JAN 26
K
annada action drama ‘Mumbai’ will release in about 250 theatres all over Karnataka on January 26. The film is produced by Ramu under the banner of Ramu Films and directed by S R Ramesha (Brothers). Mani Kalyani debuts as dialogue writer. Sridhar V Sambram is the music director and Ramesh C is the cameraman. The film stars Madarangi Krishna and Teju in lead roles.

Producer Ramu said ever since he made Golibaar in 1993 most of the action films produced by him were successful. He said he was confident that ‘Mumbai’will do well at the box-office and catapult Krishna to stardom. He said Teju has done well and appreciated director’s patience for waiting to cast her for the lead although she was working in a software company as a techie.

He said the signals that he had been getting were positive including the theatres that he got for releasing AK 47.

Director S R Ramesha said Mumbai is 36th film made under the Ramu Films banner who has produced mostly high budget films. He said the producer has a penchant for high octane action films with his eyes focused on quality and output. He said it was producer Ramu who started the film with the title and a major part of the film has been shot in Mumbai.

Cheshwa and Ashish Vidyarthi have acted as villains who will also stand out as performers, he said. He also clarified that there is no similarity to AK 47 although there is a similarity location-wise. He said the hero has different reasons to move to Mumbai in this film. The hero is a pet animal lover and has social concern. Mani Kalyani’s dialogues have fire for the action scenes and has done well to write some sentimental dialogues as well.

Krishna said he was a bit nervous when he heard the title as it sounds big and it comes from a big banner. He said he was waiting for such a subject and added he is curious to know how people will accept him in this role. He said while dubbing for the film he was surprised about the director’s vision and the scale on which it has been produced is visible.

Teju said she was happy with the response to the trailer and the songs. She said she hoped that the film will give all of them a break as she gets a launch herself as a heroine in the movie. Teju said it is a performance-oriented role where she gets to play a tomboyish role in the first half and undergoes a change in the second half. She said she did a bit of homework for the role and didn’t want to let down the director.

The film Mumbai has been shot in the financial capital for 55 days of the 130 shoot that the film has undergone.

Speaking on the occasion, Puneeth Rajkumar said it is no ordinary feat to produce 36 films and added that 36 is a lucky number which adds up to 9. He said Ramu is synonymous with big budget films and is happy to have seen films produced by Ramu. He said his elder brother had acted in Ramu’s banner in many films and added that he is lucky to have sung a song for the movie Mumbai. Before leaving the function, the actor sang a few lines from the song that he has sung.

Director S R Ramesha said he wanted to follow up with the success of AK 47 and make another action film but he said he didn’t want to get branded as an action film director. He said Puneeth should have done the film but they couldn’t get the actor’s dates. He said Sridhar Sambram who is known for giving melodious tunes has turned a mass music director with massy tunes in the film. Heroine Teju who had acted in Chingari is playing the lead role for the first time and has acted well. Cheswa has acted well as the villain. The director clarified that the film had nothing to do with AK 47 and is not a sequel to the hit film.

Kote Prabhakar said AK 47 had given him good name as a villain but he said in this movie he plays a comic role. Cheswa said the director had drawn good performances from all artistes and he has acted in a negative role in the film.

Bharat Jain of Jhankar Music said producer Ramu has sought good online promotion for the film’s music.

Music composer Sridhar Sambram said he wanted to give a mass touch to the music that he has tuned for the film. He said music is dependent on good lyrics and the director’s needs for a film.

Teju said Mumbai is a memorable movie in her life as it is her first film in the lead role. She said the songs of the movie had gone viral on whatsapp  and added that she got compliments for it. She said Malashri was an inspiration for her and her co-star Krishna was also motivating as she learnt a lot on the sets because she didn’t go to any acting school. She said she plays a naughty girl in the first half and her character gets a changeover in the second half with shades of all emotions and sentiments.

Krishna said he was initially terrified about the film’s title as it sounded big. He said the director took so many shots which surprised him but he was convinced when he went for the dubbing. He said Ramu is a passionate producer who didn’t compromise on what even the director wanted. He thanked the producer and director for giving him an action hero image. He said his dream to dance to Puneeth’s song came true but added it was tough to match Puneeth’s energy. He said he practiced hard for the song.

Malashri said director Ramesha is stubborn and a go-getter. She said she had seen AK 47 film at the narration stage when it was told to her by Ramesha. She said she is confident that Mumbai will be a big hit simply because of the director’s passion.

Producer Ramu said director Ramesha deserves all the credit for the hard work he had put in for the film as he said the efforts were visible on the screen. He said he is hopeful and confident that Krishna will become a big hero with the release of this film. The producer said all artistes had acted well.
