Telugu actor Balakrishna and Ambarish were the star attractions of the evening besides the presence of artistes who have worked in the film.

Mementos were given away to technicians and artistes who had worked in the film by  Balakrishna and Ambarish.

Ashok said Shivarajkumar has maintained the same humility that he had when he began his career 30 years ago. He said he was happy to sign autographs at the theatre where he had gone to see the film.

Avinash said he had first acted with Shivanna in Samyukta about 27 years ago that also ran for 100 days then. He said Shivanna continues to be a passionate actor even after so many years. He said he had acted in three of P Vasu’s films.

Vijaya Raghavendra said he had come as a fan of Shivanna. He said he was happy to have worked with Shivanna in two films and is now working in Srikanta. Raghavendra said there was a lot to learn from the actor before he sang a few lines from their film Rishi.

Vinaya Prasad said Shivarajkumar had grown up to become a banyan tree and is now giving shelter to many new actors. Vinay Rajkumar said his uncle is an evergreen hero.

Shakti, son of P Vasu said initially Vijay Raghavendra was tipped to do his role but he got it with the support of his father and Shivanna. He said his father became a director for the first time in a Kannada film.

Raghavendra Rajkumar said Annavru used to call Shivanna Appaji because Shivanna’s real name is that of his grandfather. He said Shivanna was his appaji and has lived up to it.

Director P Vasu said everyone has been saying that Shivanna has completed 30 years but he said it is just three years according to him because every decade is equal to one year. He said Shivanna is still the same that he was when he had written the screenplay for Rathasaptami. Shivanna’s dedication, sincerity, honesty and simplicity has brought him this far. He said he knew Rajkumar’s family since the time his father did make-up for NTR and MGR. The director said he had accepted his first paycheck from Parvathamma who has proved to be a lucky hand to him.

Ambarish said he was happy with the success of Shivalinga but said he hadn’t seen it. He said Balakrishna had come here because there are more voters here.

Balakrishna said Rajkumar is like his chikkappa and Shivanna is his thamma. Speaking in Kannada and Telugu, Balaiah said NTR was Bobbili Simha, he was Kondaveeti Simha and Rajkumar was Keralida Simha and Shivanna is now Simhada Mari.

He said his forthcoming film Gowthami Putra is hitting the theatres soon.

Shivarajkumar said NTR, MGR and our family were like one unit. He said he was nothing in front of Balakrishna’s energy. He said Balaiah may become Andhra Pradesh CM one day and that he had come all the way just on his request.

Run Antony’s trailer was shown to the audiences and a song from Shivarajkumar’s forthcoming film Kabeera was also shown.

Heroine Vedika was also present.

Producer Suresh is now producing Shivarajkumar’s next film Kadar and Shivalinga 2 is also on the cards.

‘Shivalinga’, a psycho crime thriller and a family drama directed by P Vasu starring Shivarajkumar and Vedika will now release in more than 250 theatres up from the earlier announced 200 theatres across the state on February 12. This is due to the interest in the movie followed by the recent success of Killing Veerappan and the rise in Shivanna’s stock. Shivalinga is produced by K A Suresh.

Shivanna is also playing a new kind of role in a new genre and the actor has acted in a somewhat similar genre early in his career in Ade Raaga Ade Haadu.

SHIVALINGA’ RELEASING ON FEB 12
‘Shivalinga’, a psycho crime thriller and a family drama directed by P Vasu starring Shivarajkumar and Vedika will release in more than 200 theatres across Karnataka on February 12. The film is produced by K A Suresh.

Director P Vasu told reporters that the film deals with two levels in the story with the protagonist playing a dignified investigating CID officer on the one hand and has an emotional side in the form of his family. A 25-year-old guy gets murdered in a train and a pigeon is witness to the act of crime, Vasu said. The director said for the first time a pigeon had been used as a witness and that had worked well for the movie. He said a song was also picturised on the pigeon.

Vasu said Shivanna has underplayed the role and used silence in the narrative. He said Shivanna had performed subtly in the movie and that sound plays an important part in the narrative. Graphics and special effects took a while for the film to complete, he said.

The director who made Apthamitra and Aptharakshaka said Vedika took a lot of interest in improvising herself and her performance. Vasu said Vedika’s role was not the usual heroine kind in the film as her role required performance which the actress he said took it as a challenge.

He said songs were situational in the movie. Sadhu Kokila’s comedy was another entertaining feature, he said and there was Shivanna’s and Urvashi’s combination that is also worth watching. P K H Das is the cinematographer and V Harikrishna has scored the music.

Shivarajkumar said he was doing a film with Vasu 30 years he had written the screenplay for Rathasapthami. He said the film had variations and subtleties. He said the film takes the audience along who would want to know ‘what next?’ as they see it. Shivanna said his was a challenging role with some scenes requiring silence. He said he got involved in the scene because of the director.

Producer Suresh praised the director and the heroine for their involvement and the preparedness during the shoot.

Vasu teams up with Shivanna for Shivalinga
F
lush with the recent success of his Kannada film Drishya, well-known South Indian director P Vasu has started work on his latest film Shivalinga that stars Shiva Rajkumar in the lead.

Vasu has chosen to direct a detective film which is also a musical film with comical elements in Shivalinga and is working with Shivanna for the first time although he was involved in scripting for the actor’s film Rathasaptami very early in the actor’s career.

The director who has called the shots for some of well-known Vishnuvardhan’s films is working with a member of the Rajkumar family only for the second time. Vasu, who had directed Rajkumar in Guri is now taking his friendship with Shivanna of more than 30 years to the celluloid.

Incidentally, he directed Ravichandran for the first time in Drishya this year as well.

“I have known Shivarajkumar for a long time. We used to travel together to Sabarimala on pilgrimage tours and we have been constantly in touch with each other. Shivarajkumar’s debut film Anand had become a hit when I was working with his father Dr Rajkumar in Guri. Somehow we couldn’t work together all these years,” said Vasu.

Vasu says after Shivarajkumar saw Drishya he called me and expressed his desire to work with me. “Within a week I had a story ready for him which I narrated to him. He agreed to do the film but there was no producer. He introduced me to this producer Suresh who agreed to produce this film,” said Vasu.

P Vasu’s first Kannada directorial film was Kathanayaka that starred Vishnuvardhan and Sumalatha in lead roles. The director has made successful films with Vishnuvardhan like Aapta Mitra and Aaptarakshaka with the latter becoming Vishnuvardhan’s last film. Aapta Mitra was remade into Tamil as Chandramukhi with Rajinikanth in the lead and Aaptarakshaka was remade into Telugu as Nagavalli.

P Vasu came into the limelight with the success of his Tamil film Chinna Tambi which was remade into Kannada as Ramachari and as Chanti in Telugu. The film was remade in Hindi as Anari with Venkatesh and Karishma Kapoor in lead roles. He was instrumental in launching Meena and Karishma Kapoor as actresses.

The director is now eyeing Hollywood and is likely to direct his first English film titled Curry In Love in the coming year. He is keen on casting Nick Nolte who is down with a swollen tooth and intends to rope in Eddie Murphy for another key role. “Actors in Hollywood work differently. They always want to know the number of pages that the script runs into,” he said.
