SHANTARAM PASSES AWAY

enior actor and director Shantaram, 68, passed away on Sunday afternoon in a private hospital following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Shaila Shantaram. His brother Murali Krishna told cinecircle.in that he was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday due to renal failure and doctors attending on him said Sunday was crucial for his recovery as he was critically ill.

Shantaram has acted in more than 40 films in Kannada and Tamil. He has directed a few Kannada films such as Marali Goodige, Balanauke, Karnana Sampathu, Hrudaya Samrajya and Prema Tapaswi. He had acted in K Balachander’s film Tappida Tala and with Rajinikanth in Tamil film Maruttukaalai.

He won the award from the government of Karnataka for his debut film Marali Goodige in 1984. He wrote dialogues for S V Rajendra Singh Babu’s films Mahakshatriya and Hoovu Hannu.

Shantaram is said to be associated with the likes of Shankar Nag, M S Sathyu, Balu Mahendar among others of the era.
