NARAGUNDA BANDAYA TO MOUNT SETS ON AUGUST 18

at-trick director Nagendra Magadi is set to make a comeback after a gap of six years. Nagendra Magadi’s last film was Hori that was released in 2011. Now, he has been assigned to direct Naragunda Bandaaya, a film based on farmers’ agitation in Dharwad and Raichur districts in 1980s.

If all goes well, the muhurat function of film Naragunda Bandaya will be held on August 18 at Kanteerava Studios. Siddesh Viraktamath, basically a theatre artiste, has written the script apart from being producer for this film. State award winner Keshavaditya has been assigned to write dialogues for Naragunda Bandaaya.

“I am from Navalgund taluk. I was studying 4th standard when this incident taken place. Two farmers – Veerappa Kadlikoppa of Chikkanaragund village in Naragund taluk of Gadag district (then in Dharwad district) and Basappa Lakkundi of Alagawadi village in Navalgund taluk in Dharwad district were killed in police firing on July 21, 1980,’’ said director Nagendra Magadi.

He said that he would consider directing film Naragunda Bandaaya as a great achievement in his career. “The title of this film was launched at Raichur. Thousands of people attended the function and extended support to this film,’’ he said.
Till now, the director has finalized Rakshit and Shubha Poonja as the lead pair in this film.

“I am lucky to have this opportunity. Acting in tele serials was not my cup of tea. I nourished an ambition of becoming a hero since my childhood. I agreed to act in this film when director Nagendra Magadi Sir has narrated the script of this film in 13 minutes. I am practicing dialogues with North Karnataka diction. I will complete the shooting of ongoing tele serial and may act in one more tele serial before focusing on Kannada films,’’ says Rakshith.

Thanking director and producer for selecting her to play the heroine role in this film, Shubha Poonja said that she got this opportunity after a long gap. “I am playing the role of a village girl who falls in love with the hero in this film. My role is very important in this film. Now, I am practicing dialogues in North Karnataka diction,’’ Shubha said with a smile.
