‘MANASU MALLIGE’ TAKES A GOOD OPENING
In a post-release press meet held in Bengaluru on Friday, director S Narayan said after seeing the Marathi film he couldn’t come out of its hangover for close to three hours and then Rockline and himself decided to do the film. He said the Marathi film which had a running time of three hours has been cut to two hours twenty minutes with a few new scenes, new screenplay and new songs. He said he asked Rockline Venkatesh to sign the same heroine for the Kannada project and also the same music composers for the film which was readily agreed upon by the producer.
The director said Rockline chased the heroine to sign her for the movie as much as he chased the music directors. He said the heroine said that she hadn’t heard the language and that it would be difficult to act in a language that she didn’t know existed. Narayan said as soon as she was signed for the movie a workshop was conducted and within half a day the heroine had changed her mind as she grasped whatever he had told her to do. He said Rinku is a director’s actress who has gone on to become the backbone of the movie.
Narayan said about 8,000 people were scanned for the hero’s role and finally Rockline Venkatesh showed the photo of Nishant who is Satyaprakash’s son and thus he was selected. He said Nishant overcame all the fears within a few days and came into his own. The film is a message for lovers and parents, he said. Narayan also appreciated cinematographer Manohar Joshi’s camera work.
Rockline Venkatesh said locations played an important character in the movie. He said Akash Chawla of Zee Studio gave him an opportunity to produce this in Kannada first. He said the songs had got a good response in the social media.
Rinku Rajguru said after signing the Kannada film which was an alien language to her she found everyone talking to her in the language and she never understood even a word on the day she reported for work. She said she can speak a little bit of Kannada now and can understand the language though she cannot speak fluently in the language. She says she now finds Kannada as a soft and a cute language. Rinku said the film shows that girls are strong and can do everything. She said she knew her character but it was like writing another exam as it is in a new language.
Nishant said it was not work on the sets but it was fun. He said the director moulded him and tuned him into an actor. He said the hero is a timid guy and that he had seen Sairat several times.
Akash Chawla said this is a film that speaks of the coming of age of girls in this generation. He said it was difficult to stomach the fact that an actor who dreamt of playing the lead role had to surrender himself to playing such a timid character.
Director Narayan said this is the first time that a Kannada film has released in many screens outside Karnataka and is now ready to hit the overseas market as well.
