ADAVANI LAKSHMI, K V RAJU, CHINNAPPA GET LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

eteran actress Adavani Lakshmidevi has bagged the prestigious Dr Rajkumar Award while director K V Raju has won the Puttanna Kanagal Award. Painter K Chinnappa has won the Vishnuvardhan Award for contribution to cinema.

A committee headed by senior actress Jayanthi has recommended these awards. Each award carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a gold medal. The award for film writing has gone to the book Nenapina Muthina Haara written by director S V Rajendra Singh Babu.

Adavani Lakshmidevi has acted in more than 150 Kannada films besides acting in a few Telugu and Tamil films. She entered cinema after her theatre stint through Bhakta Vijaya opposite Rajkumar.

Director K V Raju started as an editor and went on to become an assistant director and scriptwriter before turning to direction. He has directed 38 films besides writing dialogues, story and screenplay in 30 movies. His most popular films include Sangrama, Navabharata, Indrajit, Yuddakanda, Kadana, Belli Modagalu and Huliya. He has also directed two films in Hindi.

K Chinnappa, 81, is one of the senior most painters of Kannada film banners and cut-outs. His Rajkamal Arts continues  to make the dying art of film banner painting even today. He has to his credit of painting every big Kannada film banner since Rajkumar’s debut movie Bedara Kannappa in 1954.
