BOOK ON ACTRESS KALPANA RELEASED Rajesh said it has been 38 years since Kalpana passed away and he was in Nargonda when he heard about her death. Rajesh who has acted with her in 22 films said her character used to irritate people. There was a complaint she used to turn in late for her shoots everyday which gave room for negative thoughts against her. But, Rajesh said Kalpana used to finish her work for the day even if she came late. Kalpana is an excellent actress whose career could be chronicled, he said. Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy chairman S V Rajendra Singh Babu said the academy is planning to bring out books on great personalities in Kannada cinema on the lines of Belli Hejje programme that is being done for living legends. Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, Nagabharana and P Sheshadri are now working on penning biographies of illustrious personalities like B R Panthulu, Gubbi Veeranna and Honnappa Bhagavathar. Author Sridhar said he didn’t know much about cinema. But, he said he learnt about Kalpana from her mother and became her fan. Kalpana died in 1978 but her films and her work is alive even to this day. She had hardly been associated with any bad films, he said. C P Krishna Kumar, who is author Sridhar’s mentor and principal of a college said Kalpana is an immortal and a shining star and a golden star of Kannada silverscreen. He said her films were loaded with messages which is lacking in today’s cinema. Director S K Bhagawan, actors Shivaram, Sudarshan and Shylashri were also present. The book runs into 1100 pages and has 300 photographs. The seventh chapter gives an account of her personality as seen by various personalities. |
