MUSICAL NITE IN HONOUR OF DR BALAMURALI, PUTTANNA ON DEC 28

anapriya Cultural Academy Trust is organizing a musical nite programme ‘Geetha Namana’ under the title of Ee Pariya Sobagu Innyaava Devaralli Kaane on December 28 at Seva Sadan in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru starting at 5.30 pm.

Playback singer Jyothi Raviprakash told journalists on Monday morning that the programme is being held as a tribute to Carnatic music legend Dr M Balamuralikrishna and director Puttanna Kanagal on December 28 as the day happens to be the late musician’s birth anniversary. Also, the ace film-maker’s death anniversary falls in December.   

Jyothi Raviprakash recalled how her father Pranesh Rao was a harmonist and had lent musical instruments for the Hamsa Geethe shoot that happened at their home in Chitradurga.

Gururaj, B K Shivaram, B K Sumitra and actor Ramakrishna will be the guests at the musical nite programme. She said the function will have no felicitations. However, Basave Gowda’s book Belli Tereya Bhavashilpi will be released on the occasion.

Dr Balamuralikrishna has sung 35 Kannada songs while Puttanna Kanagal has directed 25 films. Selected songs from Dr Balamurali’s Kannada album and Puttanna’s films will be performed in the musical nite programme under her supervision, she said.
