JOTHEGAATHI RELEASING ON JUNE 17
J
othegaathi, an offbeat Kannada film will release on June 17 at Savitha Cinesquare in Bengaluru. The movie is produced by Roddam Shivaram and directed by K Shashidhar who has also handled the camera. Manoj Kumar has scored the music. The film stars Lakshmi Hegde, Manjunath Hegde, Tanuja, Prashanth Malur and Anil Kumar among others.

Producer Shivaram said the film ends on a surprising note after the wife nags her husband throughout the length of the movie and the age leap that the movie takes in its narration. Lakshmi Hegde plays the wife and Manjunath Hegde plays the harassed husband.

Shivaram said he waited for a long time to make this short story written by late Basavaraja Kattimane into a movie. He regretted that the movie did not win any awards at the state level or at the national level. The film has been shot in North Karnataka including Gokak with the Dharwad accent in the movie.

Director Shashidhar said a small misunderstanding in the family leads to so many problems which is what the film is all about.

Keshava Chandra who has written the screenplay, dialogues and lyrics for the film said producers should have good taste and only then can good movies be made. He took it a long time for producer to make this story into a film. He said there is one situational song and a title song that has been used in the narrative.

Manjunath Hegde said he had taken a break from television for a year to see if he gets film offers and Jothegaathi was the first film offer that he got during the period. He said his role in the movie surpassed all his expectations and had enough meat. Manjunath Hegde said he was happy to have worked in television for 16 years which gave him a variety of roles to perform. He said he didn’t find it hard to converse in the Dharwad dialect although Lakshmi has performed well.

Tanuja said she plays the role of Lakshmi’s friend in the movie. Prof Prakash of Manipal University also spoke.

Lakshmi Hegde said she is quite like the character that she plays in the film. The reason for her nagging behaviour towards her husband is known towards the end. Is it because of inferiority complex or boredom that she fights with her husband constantly is what is revealed in the end, she said.
