BENGALURU INTERNATIONAL FILM FEST FROM JAN 28

he eighth edition of Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFES) will be held in Bengaluru and Mysuru simultaneously from January 28, 2016 to February 4, 2016. For the first time, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lead the organizing committee of the film festival. Jaimala will be the artistic director and the minister for information and broadcasting will be the chairman of the festival.

The film festival will be inaugurated on January 28 at the Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru and the closing ceremony will be held in Mysuru on February 4. Screenings will begin from January 29. For the first time all screenings will be held  under one roof at 11 screens of PVR Cinemas in Orion Mall, Rajajinagar, Bengaluru and at four screens of Inox Cinemas in the Mall of Mysore.

In the festival, over 170 films from 61 countries will be screened. The festival will have three competitive sections - Asian (12 films), Indian (13 films) and Kannada (15 films) with an additional international jury for Kannada cinema.

The Kannada films that will be screened in the festival are: Biruku (V Chala), Bombeyaata (Mohan Kumar K N), Chali Polilu (Tulu) by Veerendra Shetty Kavoor, Chiguru (Naganatha Madhava Rao Joshi), Daksha (S Narayan), Devara Nadalli (B Suresha), Haggada Kone (Dayal Padmanabhan), Mythri (B.M Giriraj),  Naanu Avanalla Avalu (B S Lingadevaru), Nagaradalli Ondu Dina (Venkat Bharadwaj), Priyanka (Dinesh Baboo), Puta Thirugisi Nodu (Suneel Raghavendra), Rangitaranga (Anup Bhandari), Saalada Magu (Umashankar Swamy) and Vidhaaya (P Sheshadri).

Like in the previous edition, the films will be screened under Contemporary Cinema of world, Country Focus: Mexico, Iran, Turkey and Directors’ Retrospectives: Istvan szabo of Hungary & Nils Malmros of Denmark. The festival will have B Saroja Devi’s artiste retrospective section and films made by Dadasaheb Phalke Awardees – Mrinal Sen and Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Under the tributes section, films made by Siddalingaiah and K S L Swamee will be screened.

The festival will have a new section for documentary films from this edition. A good number of best films screened at major international film festivals of Berlin, Cannes, Toronto, Goa, Mumbai, Kerala etc., will be screened during the Bengaluru film festival.

Films made by world renowned filmmakers such as Istvan Szabo from Hungary, Jafer Panahi from Iran, Jia Zhang Ke from China, Hou Hsiao-Hsien from Japan, Emin Alper from Turkey, Jacques Audiard from France, Christian Petzold from Germany and Nanni Moretti from Italy among others will also be screened in the film festival.

More than 50 foreign delegates are expected to participate in the festival.

Registration for delegates will begin from January 6, 2016 at the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy office at Badami House, N R Square, Bengaluru-560002 and at Suchitra Film Society, BSK Stage, Bengaluru –560070 premises. Registration facility will also be extended to Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce premises in Bengaluru and Information Department offices at Mysuru soon.  Online registration facility will also be available.

Delegates will have to pay Rs 600 that will include general public while Rs 300 will be charged for students, Film Society members, senior citizens and members of KFCC film family.
