ALLAMA’ TRAILER RELEASED, FILM DUE ON JAN 26
T
he trailer of Kannada musical historical drama ‘Allama’ was released in Bengaluru at a studio on Monday evening. The film will release on Jan. 26 in about 40 to 50 theatres across Karnataka. The film is produced by late Srihari Khoday and directed by T S Nagabharana. The film stars Dhananjaya as Allama Prabhu, Meghana Raj as Maya and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy as Allama’s mother in key roles.

Srinivas Khoday said it was his father Srihari’s dream to make a film on philosopher Allama Prabhu and had been engaged in discussions with C Aswath and T S Nagabharana. He said his father suddenly decided to make a movie based on Allama adding that Nagabharana used to give him information on the goings-on and happenings of what was transpiring on the sets. Srinivas Khoday expressed the confidence that the film will create history.

T S Nagabharana said Sridhara Murthy, Pratibha Nandakumar and Sripathi had helped him in scripting the film which took three years to make. He said Allama had been shaped the way the scriptwriters had thought and added that Allama had been portrayed as a force to reckon with and developed into a personality.

Mars Suresh is distributing the cinema and the director said the decision to release the film was taken after the Goa festival going by the response that the film had drawn.

The director said a publicity blitzkrieg had been started which involved taking the Allama teachings from Davangere to the north and south of Karnataka. He said Allama is a cultural film with make-up and costume handled by Nagini Bharana. G S Bhaskar has done the colour scheming with his camera work, he said. Shashidhar Adapa has worked as the art director and Bapu Padmanabha has scored the music. The director said it was an honour for Kannada cinema following Allama’s selection to the Indian Panorama section and another award committee.

Dhananjaya said the film had given him answers to questions that he had in his mind regarding his cinema career. He said rarely are biopics taken up in Kannada but Allama is one of them.

Meghana Raj said it is not so simple to make such films while thanking the director and producer for casting her and giving her an opportunity to act in the film in what she referred to as her dream role.

Lakshmi Gopalaswamy said Nagabharana needs to be lauded for the effort in taking such a subject. She said the subject is not only challenging but it is also tough to handle and added that the movie is a magnum opus. She said teachings of Allama are relevant even to this day and cinema is the right medium to propagate the message. She said this film needs to go places and reach global destinations so that Allama’s teachings become popular.

Music composer Bapu said Allama is a complete film with all aspects of cinema.

Meanwhile, Nagabharana announced that he will take up filming of Omar Qayyum that will be produced by Khoday.

MUSIC FOR NAGABHARANA’S ALLAMA RELEASED
D
irector T S Nagabharana’s epic drama Allama has completed its shoot and post-production work is in progress. Allama is expected to hit the screens soon. The music for the film was released at a function in Bengaluru. Video clippings of the film’s making and a few song bits were also shown on the occasion.

The film stars Dhananjaya and Meghana Raj in lead roles. The movie is produced by Hari Khoday.

Nagabharana told reporters that the film Allama is the result of four years of effort in terms of preparation and ground work before the actual production began. He said the film was possible because of Hari Khoday’s blessings and his commitment to produce meaningful cinema. He praised 15 stalwarts who had worked on the story, screenplay and dialogues adding that their sincerity towards work had made it possible to make the film. He said Allama is a people’s film made by them and made for them.

Producer Hari Khoday who had earlier produced Nagamandala, Santa Shishunala Sharief and Mysore Mallige said Allama is a kind of tribute to C Aswath. He said the film was started with the title Jai Allama Prabhu.

Pratibha Nandakumar who worked as an associate director said Allama was a yogi who propagated zero. She said he had written beautiful vachanas and added that it was not easy to make such a type of film. Nagabharana has ventured into taking up this as a subject for a film only after completing knowing the history, she said. Pratibha said how Allama turns a yogi is all that the cinema is about.

Meghana Raj said she plays Maya Devi in the movie. She said it is tough and challenging to make a movie today of the bygone era. She said Nagabharana sir had done it well and added that it is necessary for people to see period cinema. She said Dhananjaya had acted well and added that she was eager to see the film. Meghana Raj said she had not seen the film except for the portions that she dubbed. Bapu Padmaraj has given good music, she said.

Dhananjaya said it was like an achievement for him to be acting in such a movie. He said he had prepared for his role. He said Nagabharana, Khoday and Bapu could alone have made this film possible.

Music composer Bapu thanked the producer and director for giving him the opportunity.

ALLAMMA’ BHARANA GETS KHODAY KAVACHA!
F
or any milestone film the significant director who is passionate to the core is important. This is what happening for TS Nagabharana another treasure ‘Allama’...Bayalemba Beragu historical Kannada cinema. The ‘Kavacha’ the film is getting from Sri Hari Khoday is something impeccable. The 76 years Ustaad has concern for this kind film. His films like Mysoora Mallige, Nagamandala and Santha Shishunala Sharief are examples of his keen observation on subject and its presentation.

When TSN was sitting with cancellation of ‘Yuge Yuge’ this project cropped up and Sri Hari Khoday gave full freedom for TSN. As a result of it - GS Bhasker in camera, Shashidhar Adapa in art, Bapuji in music, Dr Siddagangayya Kambal in research, Nagini Bharana in costumes, Dhananjay in the lead role with Meghana Sunder Raj are part of this team ‘Allamma’ – 12 century philosopher ‘Allama Prabhu’ who traveled widely to preach humanity.

Making a film on ‘Allama’ has taken a good research work. Dr Siddagangayya Kambal has supported TSN dream.  In six months time we want to bring this ‘Allama’ on screen. The language used will be understandable for present generation. Out of 35 Vachanas we have arrived at 9 proper songs and remaining to adjust to dialogue format. We are shooting at Balligavi, Banavasi, Keladi, erecting set in Bangalore and other places. There will be 40 main characters says TSN

I was asked to get out when I told my friends what kind of Kannada is spoken in Kannada films. Dr Siddagangayya Kambal attacked the present day Kannada in films and felt ashamed of it. He is writing the 5th version of dialogues and screenplay for ‘Allama’.

A fan of Dr C Ashwath Bapu Padmanabha explained 3 Haris in his journey. Harihara is his birth place, Hari Prasad Chaurasia who gave flute in his hand and turned his life and now another Hari that Sri Hari Khoday.

Doddavara Jothe Dodda cinema – I would completely give my effort said Dhananjay. The dream of Meghana Raj daughter of Dr Sunder Raj and Pramila Joshai to act in at least ‘Hayavadana’ drama in the direction of TSN, it is now a big venture for this popular south Indian actress Meghana Raj.

Bhasker G cameraman of the film ‘Allama’ feels it is a experiential media. Rarely form and content come together. This project is one such he feels. Shashidhar Adapa believer in ‘Shradde and Shrama’ thanks his fortune for a work with three giants in ‘Allama’.

Sri Hari Khoday was in full zoom to address the media in pure Kannada and English. Recalled his friend Dr C Aswath and ordered for song Shoonya….. that was very timely one. Like ‘Zero’ full of emptiness and we are at the intelligence of silence. A man has to live without religion and cast is also inside essence of this ‘Allama’ he says.

Journalist NS Sridhara Murthy and Sripathi Manjanabail are in the research wing.
